Swinging in to Autumn Jacket

Wonder how I do it??

Well here is just on method I was used when I created the "Swinging in to Autumn" kimono jacket (pictured above). First the colors are layered one over the other until a piece 'feels" done. Then I leave the art to rests for 48 hours. Then the silk is carefully rolled up placing sheeting between the layers of silk - a very time consuming task. Once the task of rolling it up is complete, then it is steamed for 3 to 5 hours to 'set' the dyes.

I allow the silk to rest for 48-72 hours then it's washed and ironed (yes, you can wash and iron all of my art pieces) in cold water. Next I lay it flat on a terry towel to dry, and iron it while still damp (yes, ironed while still damp) using a piece of old sheet between the iron and the silk. Then the process is complete and the kimono is as good as new!
